Nuclear Waste Management Organization

The NWMO is a non-profit organization whose purpose is ensuring used nuclear fuel in Canada is managed safely for generations to come. In 2002, federal legislation made us responsible for the long-term management of used nuclear fuel in Canada.

Ever since, we have been working closely with municipal and Indigenous communities, industry, regulators, and all levels of government to protect people and the environment, both now and in the future.
